Must you know how every nut and bolt on an automobile is attached before purchasing a vehicle?  Must you know how many pinches of salt were added to the beef stew before picking up the spoon?  Must you know how each pattern on the tablecloth was sewn before setting the table?  The answer to each of these rhetorical questions is a definitive No.

But when it comes to choosing a business, the nuts and bolts do matter.  You want to know more about the industry, the main and back-end products of that niche, and the best way to find and then reach your target market.  These are legitimate requisites before diving into your new venture.  Violating the due diligence of preparing adequately for the launching of an enterprise will more than likely lead to failure.

The Internet has made research and preparation for launching a business much easier than before there was a digital world.  Gathering information and preparing, preparing and gathering information, gathering and preparing can be addictive, time-consuming, and sometimes can become the nail in the coffin to a business plan.

There is never enough information to get your business launched online or offline.  The learning curve is never-ending.  The data, the software, the advice…all can make you feel like a deer caught in headlights.

One of my favorite marketers and coaches, Mike Litman, author of  Conversations with Millionaires, has often said:

“Don’t concern yourself with getting it right, just get it going.”

That philosophy is how I went from a 116-kilogram balloon girth to a svelte 78 kilograms in just four, consistent and persistent years.   I just got it going and along the way adjusted my eating habits and lifestyle to match my new vitality.  I learned how to be thinner by going one day without the problematic food, and then another.

The same method can be used with success in trying to build a business.  Get started.  Make mistakes.  Adjust.  Keep going.  Eventually life forces will propel you to prosperity.  And with that new-found prosperity, your self-confidence will grow.  And when that self-confidence blossoms, you can become unstoppable.

As Mark Twain once said:

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.”

Leave information addiction to librarians.  The school of trial and error is where achievement resides.  If you want to take up residence there, then don’t spend your life outsmarting yourself.

Let’s get seriously real. The reason why so many sales letters use the same hooks and lures in their copy is that those words – sometimes moronic ones – are hypnotic.

Good copywriters/marketers pay close attention to the objections and complaints of subscribers, purchasers and even naysayers who don’t fall into the previous two categories. They chisel their copy to bullet-point by bullet-point each reason a person wouldn’t buy and why they should throw caution to the wind on each point this time round.

On the other end of the shtick is the gullible, vulnerable purchaser. He or she doesn’t want to build a website, spend hours working on a business, and, most importantly, shell out hundreds’ or even thousands’ of dollars which the marketer is softening them up to invest.

Let’s put this pure and simple. If Warren Buffet gave away a billion-dollar strategy with a big-dollar promise in the headline, a fool and his/her money would soon be parted. In the same way, if Lebron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers taught his 20-point-a-game strategy with a headline, “Who would like to score 20.8 points per game in the NBA consecutively for the next decade?”, some gullible, delusional and easily brainwashed wannabe players would buy his magic system for $2499.00(or more!!) without a first thought.

Pissing into the wind is far too common among slothful, serial netrepreneur failures. They want the quick fix to make them rich in a blink while sipping daiquiris and smoking joints in Maui.

Cutting to the John Hancock, making money and creating lasting wealth takes a much different mindset than what has put you behind the economic eight ball. If you are living on the financial edge or in the abyss, no system is going to extricate you from your thinking swamp.

Undoubtedly, if you can’t – without being inebriated – close your eyes and see yourself in the house, the car, the company of people which indicate exponential success for you, no system nor coach can save you from flopping.

You are where you are life because of who you truly believe you are. Nice words, chants, affirmations have their place in the success column, but there is no substitution for having a picture in your mind of the resounding success you are writing and voicing daily.

Next time a guru offers you the world, understand that in his or her world a vision of what is possible is always there. It matters not whether, Lebron, Oprah Winfrey or even Michelle Obama endorse Guru X. Systems can only work when you consistently see yourself in the fast lane to success.

You have an inside job unrelated to “As seen on TV” nonsense, list building, SEO research, social bookmarking, dollar flashing or a host of other gimmicks meant to separate a fool from his/her money.

I’m not you, but I can spot delusional, self-sabotaging behavior from Uranus. Don’t look for quick fixes or chase pie-in-the-sky dreams without first mastering your own mind.

The Lottery Mentality is pervasive in Internet Marketing. Flashing big paychecks and penning catchy headlines can still - in the modern age - separate a fool from his/her money.

No, it’s one damn sale and then another.  For most people online, lots of money – called investment in the future – flows out to buy this program, that software, or the ultimate coaching program that could and should put you over the top.  But it isn’t and doesn’t.

My daughter once bought me a shirt saying, “No money, no honey.”  Such stark truths make us desperate for money.

So when your sitting in front of the PC, pounding out your specifics to buy the newest and best program that will absolutely make you Bill Gate’s neighbor in a New-York minute, if an email comes across your desktop saying

“Congrats – You Made Another Sale”…

The temptation to open such bogus mail is often too much, even though you may be sure it is a come on or an outright scam.  The lottery mentality is easy bait to fish with when your prospect has had little to no success in online marketing and the bills are mounting.  We want to make sales or have Godly intervention!

Most of us are smart enough to smell a pedigree Nigerian scam:

“Hello, respected sir/madam.  This message may come to you as a great surprise.  My late brother-in-law, Abdulah Ben Goldfarb, recently died in disgrace in an underground cavern and left behind a small fortune of gold bullion used by the decrepit government of Sierra Leone to finance a drug ring.  Fortunately, he smuggled a map to me pinpointing the location of this stolen property of the people of my beloved country.  But I need your help to make things right…”

About 12 years ago, I got scammed on a lottery win that I couldn’t remember entering.  But I was so hungry to have instant riches, that I deluded myself to believing I had entered that phantom contest.  I was humiliated and embarrassed when I shared this story of imminent wealth with a few people.  They laughed at me and mocked me for my gullibility.  That memory doesn’t sit well with me.

When I received an email from a highly respected marketer, let’s call him B.E., with a subject title, “Congrats – You Made A Sale!” – I could feel my blood boiling.

From this point forward, please note, I will name names and print the gist of any verminous email like this.

There is abundance in this world sufficient to feed the teeming masses of malnourished, starving human beings.  It is never necessary to  scam anyone to get money or booty undeserved.  Those people resorting to  such lowest-common-denominator deception should be tarred and feathered.  I’ll do my best to smoke these vultures out.
